Quardev Monthly, March 2011

In this issue:

Welcome to the Quardev Monthly!

We look forward to sharing insights and helpful information in the areas where we know a thing or two - testing, quality assistance, technical writing and documentation, project management, and consulting.

In this month's edition we preview some of the premier testing conferences on the West Coast this year - one of which is still accepting papers and presenters.

Enjoy the newsletter with our compliments and please contact us with questions, comments, or article ideas.

Software Testing Conferences 2011

West Coast Edition

Conference of the Association for Software Testing (CAST)

August 8-10, 2011

CAST is a 3-day conference held this year at the Lynnwood Convention Center north of Seattle and chaired by Jon and James Bach. The first two days of the conference are track sessions and the third day is dedicated to full and half-day tutorials.

The theme this year is "Context-Driven Testing," and CAST claims to be the first conference dedicated to this school of thought. The goal: offer attendees the opportunity to discuss, debate, question and learn about Context-Driven Testing.

The theme centers on what it means to perform context-driven testing: Testing, learning, observing, problem solving, understanding, decision making, and applying knowledge - all while taking into consideration the specifics of the mission, environment, customers, product, time lines and other variables that define your context.

So far the conference has over 100 attendees - with a cap of 280 total - and if you sign up by April 30th you'll get the early bird rates. It looks to be a great conference right in own backyard.

Pacific Northwest Software Quality Conference (PNSQC)

October 10-12, 2011

PNSQC is the premier software testing conference in our region - year after year the team at PNSQC put on a great program with wonderful opportunities to meet others in the field, in a World-class setting.

PNSQC aims to "Enable knowledge exchange to produce higher quality software."

To this end they have booked two great keynote speakers for this year's conference:

  • Goranka Bejdov from Facebook who will present on The Future of Quality
  • Rob Sabourin from AmiBug.com, Inc who will present on Value Sync

The conference is still accepting Abstracts for Technical Papers and Poster Papers - so if you've considered speaking to software testing professionals check out the instructions on the PNSQC Website.

Software Testing Analysis and Review (STARWEST)

October 2-7, 2011

STARWEST is the biggest conference on the West Coast for software testing professionals. This year it is back in Anaheim at the Disneyland Hotel (after relocating to San Diego last year).

Speaker submissions for the 2011 conference seems to have just closed and there isn't too much on the Website about the program theme or speakers yet but should be available soon.

Typically there is a great discount when booking early so keep an eye on the STARWEST Website if you are interested in attending. And check out the SQE Website to learn more about the other conferences and content they offer.

There are great opportunities for learning within the software testing profession this year - between CAST, PNSQC, and STARWEST, not to mention the various community groups and workshops, you can learn valuable, hands-on skills that you can immediately use in your daily work life.

Check out our Website to stay updated on these great conferences - we'll be posting updates and conference information on our Events page.
